Learning How to Deal: the Life of a Casino Worker
Have you become tired of the daily grind? Fed up with low wages and dead-end jobs? Are you ready to change your fortunes with a new career amid the lights and glitter? Then working for a traditional casino, Native American casino or one of the online casinos may be just the thing for you!
Imagine yourself as a high stakes casino blackjack or poker dealer, flipping cards to the rich and famous. Or perhaps you prefer to work behind the scenes as a casino pit clerk, cage cashier, slot technician, or casino surveillance officer. Those are only a few of the hundreds of entry-level casino and gaming related jobs available to you. With new casinos opening every year both in the United States and abroad, the opportunities are nearly endless.
As a casino dealer game can be fun, challenging, and lucrative. Many traders find roulette as one of the most interesting games to do. Although it is a bit monotonous as blackjack, there are several things to do roulette dealers. In blackjack, it is done repeatedly and counting the cards and pay or withdraw money. The roulette dealer to pick up chips, you can move the ball around and chips on the layout. But the tips are a bit less at the roulette table. Bettors usually less money than at roulette blackjack bet, and they tend to be proportionate to what they play top.
What is the most challenging part about roulette for dealers? Definitely the totaling of bets because there are so many combinations to figure out. Sometimes the math can get a bit hard. But you get used to it after a while. You’ll be able to look at the layout and know how much to pay without even thinking about it. And you have to be very diligent about watching the entire roulette table, especially when it becomes crowded. Manual dexterity also comes into play as a roulette dealer. When you are working out of a tray on the blackjack table, you just take the chips out to pay the players or pick up bets. But in roulette you have stacks and stacks of chips to slide across the table to the players. That’s why dealers receive a lot of breaks. Not only is there constant repetitive motion in roulette, but it also requires constant mental concentration in order to keep it all together.
After several years of treatment can be expected to climb their way up the ladder. In a casino, is the usual hierarchy dealer, floor supervisor, pit boss or administrative supervisor, assistant shift manager, shift manager, and finally, a casino manager. As an assistant shift manager you usually have to contribute to the shift manager that is needed tasks on this day. On the day of the regular shift manager from the wizard works as a shift supervisor. As such, they are mainly responsible for the entire shift in that particular casino. The gaming industry is definitely a service industry now and their main desire is for people to have fun. Make sure that customers have a good time to be. But their main task is still to see the money and to ensure that everything on the up and up.
Management can be a stressful job. Some days you come in and nothing goes wrong. However, there are some days that the phone starts ringing and suddenly there are a million things to do. This person checks in, that person wants more credit, this one has won a lot, and that person is mad because he has lost too much. So anything can come up.
Managers are generally on the casino in order to be visible and make themselves readily available if someone needs them. And it does become bewildering at times to see people blow an enormous amount of money. So you can get jaded after a while. But it’s important to remember it’s not you who is taking the money, it’s the game. You can’t take it personally. You learn to realize you have no control. All the odds are built in.
The industry has changed a lot. The dealers did not have a lot of say in the old days. You made good money so you weren’t going to talk back. It is more of a guest-service industry now. For the dealer it’s no longer, “Hey, you [the customer] want to gamble, I don’t have to be nice,” and for the player it’s no longer, “I have all this money so I can call you [the dealer] whatever I want.” The whole industry has become a more pleasant place in which to work. You meet many wonderful people, fellow employees as well as customers. Dealers also enjoy the games, and of course, the money they earn.
More casinos are going corporate whereas they used to be privately owned. Corporations offer better benefits and more vacation time. The industry just keeps growing. Workers also noticed that it didn’t used to be hard to move from city to city but now it seems much more difficult after the industry opened up all over the country. Many would probably not be able to go into a Strip casino in Las Vegas and still be an assistant shift supervisor without losing their position. It still is pretty simple moving from property to property within the same area, though.
The most challenging part of the casino experience has to be learning to deal with all the personalities of the other employees. There aren’t many women in this field, so workplace dynamics can be difficult for them to fit into. Most of the craps dealers are men, the roulette dealers are women, and blackjack gets a mixture of both. Management is still mostly men, but figures are always changing. Anyone interested in this industry should just go for it. The stress level of working in a casino is there but some days are better than others, as with any job. It’s also a great career if you have children or if you are going to school because you can work almost any hours to fit into your schedule.
Many experienced dealers suggest that new dealers start out with blackjack since it is one of the more basic and easier of the games to deal. You can get the fundamentals down with blackjack, then when you move to more complicated games you will already understand security procedures, such as how to make sure no one is cheating the house and how to show your employers that you are not cheating them. You’ll be able to focus more on the dealing itself. No dealer is expected to learn all the games, but they are somewhat more valuable when they can.

Card Counting on Black Jack 21- Strategy to Determine a Propabability Advantage
A Game of Strategy
Card counting is a card game strategy used to determine when a player has a probability advantage. The term is used almost exclusively to refer to the tracking of the ratio of high cards to low cards in blackjack and its derivatives such as Spanish 21, although it is sometimes used to refer to obtaining a count of the distribution or remaining high cards in trick-taking games, such as contract bridge or spades. This article deals only with card counting as it applies to blackjack and its derivatives.
The Basics
The basic principle behind card counting is the fact that high cards, particularly aces and tens, are better for the player and low cards, particularly 4s, 5s and 6s, are good for the dealer. A high concentration of Aces and tens give a higher chance of Blackjacks (which immediately pay at 1.5:1 unless the dealer also has Blackjack) and the tens also increase probability of a hand totaling 20, which are almost as good (the dealer must hit Blackjack to beat), and of splittable pairs also resulting in 20s. A high number of ten-value cards also makes the insurance bet more profitable since that is essentially a bet that the dealer’s card is a ten (giving them Blackjack). Low cards are good for the dealer, because the dealer must hit stiff hands (12-16) unlike the player who can hit or stand according to basic strategy. Tens bust all stiff hands and will increase the chance the dealer will lose, so a concentration of low values is safer for the dealer. A low count of Aces also decreases the probability of Blackjack.
Are Special Abilities Needed?
Contrary to popular myth, card counters do not need unusual mental capacity to calculate the cards, because they are not specific tracking and memory card. On the contrary, the card counters distribution points score for each card, they see the estimated value of the card, and then they would only follow the sum of these values. (This is to keep the so-called "running count." Counter the myth, so that every Ricard in the film Rain Man, in which the word savant Raymond Babbitt through six decks with ease and casino employees on charges of wrong views, it is Description can not be expected six decks.

Basic Blackjack Strategy
Contrary to what many gamblers may think, blackjack is not just a guessing game. Most casino games are guessing games. But with any blackjack hand there is a correct strategy and an incorrect strategy. Basic strategy is the correct strategy. The correct strategy is the mathematically optimal strategy—that is, it will maximize your wins and minimize your losses on each hand over time.
You may have noticed that many other popular card games have no basic strategy. There is, for example, no basic strategy for poker. A poker player plays his hands according to whether or not he thinks his opponent is actually holding a strong hand or may be bluffing, and whether he himself is holding a strong hand or may want to attempt a bluff.
A basic strategy can not be for every card game for as long as your opponent can make decisions is whether those decisions are good or bad, like playing the hand. For hundreds of years, there was no basic strategy for blackjack, because it is not a casino game where the dealer had a map showing the hand and play by house rules. Instead, it was more like a poker game in the style that were hidden where both cards, the dealer was able to play the hand, but he refused, and the players could try to bluff the dealer with their own game.
When the American casinos changed the rules of twenty-one to expose one of the dealer’s cards and require the dealer to adhere to a strict hit/stand strategy, an important thing happened. They fundamentally changed the game from a poker-style game based more on psychology, to a purely mathematical game—as far as the player’s strategy was concerned.
Why Basic Strategy Works … The “Odds”
For our purposes, we are about to go out with one of them that today's retailers have to do an honest game. No trick-of-hand, no harassment. We're not going to forget the first rule of professional players, but we will leave it aside for a moment so that we are dealing with the logic of the game, and show the basic strategy that most of the mathematical side of the house to kill. The fact is that most games can be found in the casinos these days are to be treated honestly, and if you come across a game that is not on the level that you would not even try to defeat him.
For the honestly dealt game, mathematicians—using high speed computers—have analyzed every possible hand you might hold versus every possible dealer upcard to devise the correct basic strategy for the game. One thing that likely shocked some of the first mathematicians to do these computer analyses was that a nearly perfect basic strategy had actually already been figured out and published by four GIs who had desk jobs and a lot of time on their hands in the mid-1950s. They had no computers, but they’d spent three years using old-fashioned mechanical adding machines to run through all of the possible outcomes of the hands dealt. This may have been the best value Uncle Sam ever obtained from four GIs’ salaries!
We also know the correct basic strategy, there is a good approximation has come up with years of professional gamblers in Nevada before the computer arrived. Treatment of these people find their hands on the kitchen table of their own strategy. Thousands, tens of thousands, the number of hands, or even hundreds of people who need some decisions. Favorite professional gamblers, these guys has never published its strategy, because they are professionals. 21 points is their life, they spent hundreds of hours figuring out. Why do they tell people that they know what?
One thing that is certain is that the casinos did not know the proper strategy for the game, and neither did the players who had read the most highly regarded books on the subject. Many of the old Hoyle’s guides advised players to always stand on totals of 15 or 16, no matter what the dealer’s upcard, to split tens and never split nines, and to stand on soft 17. The “smart” players of the time, meaning those who had read one of these books on gambling by one of these reputable authorities, typically made all kinds of plays that we know today to be very costly.
Many people don’t get the logic of basic strategy. Let me give an example. When my hand totals 14, and the dealer shows a 10 upcard, blackjack strategy says to hit. That is the mathematically correct play. Sometimes you will hit that 14 and draw an 8, 9, or 10 and bust. Then the dealer will turn over his hole card, a 6, and you will realize that if you would have stood on your 14, the dealer would have had to hit his total of 16, and he would have busted with that 10. So, by making the “mathematically correct” play, you lost a hand you would have won if you had violated basic strategy.
Some players will argue that there really isn’t a basic strategy that is always correct. Blackjack, they insist, is a guessing game.
To understand basic strategy, you have to start thinking like a professional gambler, and that means you have to understand the concept of “the blackjack odds.”
Probability and statistics work let me explain how to use a different example shows the basic logic of my Strategy, Math. The marble jar And I suppose you have 100 files. 50 black is white marble, 50 ares. Then you need to reach your blinders, pull out a marble one, whether you do this in the meantime, if you are out of white marble, the pull of the black must be one dollar bet. If you pull out the color of the estimate, $ 1 wins; if not, the loss of one dollar.
Is this a guessing game?
Absolutely. How could you possibly know which color marble you’re going to pull out in advance? If you win, it’s just good luck, and if you lose, it’s bad luck.
But what if you know that ninety of those marbles are black, and only ten marbles are white? Now, would you bet on black or white before you draw? Any intelligent person would bet on black. It is possible, of course, to pull out a white marble, but you’re much less likely to pull out a white marble than a black one. This may be a guessing game, and you could still lose $1 if you do happen to pull out a white marble, but if you bet on black, the odds are in your favor.
A professional gambler makes his living by always thinking in terms of “the odds”, and only betting when the odds are in his favor. With this bet, the gambler would bet on black because the odds are 9 to 1 in his favor. If you bet on white, the odds are 9 to 1 against you.
So, getting back to that total of 14 you had when the dealer showed a 10 upcard, you may lose if you take a hit, but the odds are against you if you stand.
If you make your decisions by playing your hunches, you may win some hands, but you will lose more hands in the long run. There is only one correct decision for any given play, and that decision is based strictly on the math. Whether or not you should hit or stand, or double down or split a pair, depends on what the laws of probability show your expectation to be for each of these possibilities. Depending on the rules and the number of decks in use, basic strategy will usually cut the house edge to no more than about 0.5 percent over you. This makes blackjack the least disadvantageous game in the casino, even if you are not a card counter. It also worth mentioning that in online blackjack the card counting argument completely fails, since decks are shuffled after each hand, and the correct basic strategy becomes even more important.
