Choosing a Tarot Card Deck. Things to Consider When Buying Tarot Cards
Originally, the story goes that only a Gypsy could read the Tarot Cards and only a Gypsy would pass down a set of Tarot Cards to another. Think about it, a few hundred years ago, all the cards were hand made, all the images hand drawn and coloured, cut and created by hand. These cards got very worn with use and would be used for many readings.
The Gypsy would only pass on their set of cards to someone in their family that had a gift or was going to be groomed to be the next reader.? Essentially, this was when they were ready to retire. They would teach, train and pass on their knowledge of reading the cards.? They would mentor the next generation, handing down their experience from generation to generation.
Now, in 2009, Gypsies are in short supply.
Decks are mass produced in thousands of forms and are sold, bright, shiny and new from nearly every bookstore, newsagency, online from anywhere in the world in almost every language.? Now on line, take your pick of images, old and new, with thousands of types of decks.? The choice is endless.
Even 10 years ago, very few Tarot Card Decks of Cards were available except from mystic shops and even then you had to look hard to find someone that sold them. They were still considered taboo and almost sold under the counter but now things have changed and people have accepted them widely.
Where to start? So how do you pick a deck that is the best for you?
I usually let my mood judge which deck I use on the day of the reading for each individual person.
I recommend first buying the Rider Wait deck.? Simply because the images are easy to see and remember and the numbers 1 – 10 of each suite have pictures and are easier to remember when you are starting out.
Then, buy the deck you fall in love with.? Once you have gotten your confidence with the meanings of the cards, you can effectively use any deck of cards.
Emotional connection to obtain images of what moves you, what works of art and design, do resonate with you? Do you like looking at? The card is personal, you will work with them to obtain from them the knowledge and help others, in seeking to answer to the question of their lives very seriously. These cards can help you make money, change your direction in life.
The Tarot cards do not just give answers to all those who use them. Tarot cards have to be respected, and created a bond. So the first point in the selection of tarot cards tarot cards that you find a loan. This binding may be only the individuality of the cards that you, or perhaps other factors such as a gut feeling that these tarot cards is to express the right to buy.
A set of tarot cards can become very important items in your life. When we need answers, and these answers cannot be seen, then we need to utilise other tools, such as tarot cards as readings fringe on the spiritual.
If you are having problems choosing a deck, narrow it down to 5.? Discard designs and types by what you don’t like if that is easier.
How many cards are in the deck? Not everything labelled ‘Tarot’ is actually a Tarot deck. Some only contain the Major or Minor Arcana cards and some are oracle decks which have totally different cards and meanings. True Tarot decks contain 78 cards. Always be sure to look at all the cards. Some decks have amazing Major Arcana cards and then have incredibly boring and/or repetitive Minor Arcana (1 cup for Ace of cup; 2 cups for 2 of cups, etc.) If you are a beginner, this repeating pattern for the Minor Arcana cards might prove to be difficult because it doesn’t give you a lot of symbology to go on in your readings?
A word about novelty decks: They can be fun but if you are looking at your cards for spiritual insight and guidance or just collecting for fun, but you might not want to use the Halloween deck or the nursery rhyme deck for true readings.
If you get a chance to the deck in a store the handle to see how it fits in your hands. You are obviously bigger than the cards in order to be a bit harder to mix, so that the person
Many good metaphysical shops will keep tarot decks especially for viewing, so purchasers can take a good look through the cards to see if they connect with them.
Trying to find the death card in the deck – because it is often looking at death, you can see whether or not you want to deck. Death should always contain an element of hope and rebirth, no matter how terrible. If the picture hate you too much, not necessarily the right deck. Most people are touched by death cards, because this is a disturbing image, click on the right to your subconscious mind.
When buying tarot cards online, the process is the same. Simply look at the pictures, and listen to your gut feeling, your intuition. If the cards simply stand out, even though all the pictures are all the same size, and the others fade, while this set looks vibrant in a spiritual sense, then that may be the best tarot card set to buy.
Another consideration when buying tarot cards is price. There are many different sets of tarot cards that you can buy. If it is your first time at tarot, remember that you don’t need to go for the most expensive set.
Purchasing tarot cards should be done with respect. Though there are very cheap tarot cards available, you want to find a set that is both within your budget, and also one which you will value.
There are others however, some which utilise other systems. For example there may be angel cards which have different aspects or other cultures systems. Ultimately they all work, as divining works.
However, one point to consider is like with most things, more you pay for it, the more likely you will use them, and take good care of them.?
Storing the Deck
Which leads me to storage.? You will need a really nice box to keep your cards in and to keep the energy off them so they are fresh for the next reading.? We all have an energy around us and coming from us and as others handle your deck, their energy passes onto it.? I recommend a wooden box or a box made from a natural fibre and a naturally made fabric to go around it like a silk scarf (real silk that is).? There are lots of gorgeous boxes out there, just make sure they fit the size of the cards that you buy as not all are the same standard size.? Have some fun with it.? Maybe get a plain wooden box and personalise it.? Put things on it, or paint on it or just keep it plain.
Cleansing the Deck
If you feel that your cards need cleansing (as I would do after a day of tarot card parties where I would reading up to 10 people’s cards), I get a quartz crystal that I wash in water first, then put in the sun to charge for a few hours and then place it on top of the box to draw out any energy in the cards overnight.? I then wash the crystal again in the morning and put it in the moonlight for a night to release the energy that it has collected. The bigger the crystal the better.
When you do buy your deck remember to treat it with respect and clean and cleanse them when necessary – Tarot cards are not a party trick to be brought out on a whim – they are a serious tool for discovering hidden patterns in our lives, often giving us a peek at the future, and invariably surprising us with their messages.?
Passing Decks On
Also, remember to impart your knowledge.? If you have a friend or a member of your family who is interested in getting some cards, mentor them, become the Gypsy who ’hands down’ their knowledge to someone else so they can be richer for it.? It is easy to learn out of a book and learn the meanings of the cards, but learning from the experience of another reader is priceless and hard to come by.? Remember to give back your skills.?
Giving a deck of Tarot Cards as a present is also advised with a promise to teach them how to use it! Maybe say a blessing over them to pass them on.
Casinos. History of Gambling in Brief
Game is a very peculiar side of the human life that has its own laws, which do not fit into the framework of traditional logic. Here reigns His Majesty Chance and everything is relative: the weak can defeat the strong, the cunning can make a fool of himself, the poor can become rich, and vice versa.
Gamble opens up new possibilities of the personality, which are often not displayed in ordinary life. Almost everybody wants to get rich at once, without any efforts. Game gives a hope for this, but luck is destiny of the chosen ones.
Origins of the game.
Game and gamble has followed the humanity since its first steps. A grain of gamble is evident almost in everything, starting from hunting in the primitive society and up to major financial deals in the 21st century. Elements of game are inherent to many competitions and entertainments, which our forefathers arranged. For example, it is evident in competitions in strength and deftness, which were later transformed into famous tournaments. Later on the first gambling games appeared. They were based on the element of chance, trying one’s destiny.
The historians believe that the very first game was casting various stones, shells, animals’ bones – these objects were the prototypes of the dice. Documental evidence of the first games is stored in the British Museum. Among this evidence are dice, made by an unknown Egyptian craftsman from the elephant’s tusk (16th century B.C.) and a board for playing draughts, also called checkers which belonged to the queen Hatchepsut (1600 B.C.).
Historical evidence attests that all ancient civilizations played dice. Astragalus,i.e. fetlocks of the animals, were mostly used as dice. The word “astragalus” also referred to tetrahedral bricks with indentations, which more resembled modern dice – hexahedral bricks with somewhat rounded corners, in which the opposite facets, when added up, always amount to seven.
In the old days the people played odd and even, cast dice in the circle or threw them, trying to hit certain openings. Dice were also widely used for fortune-telling. It is also interesting that the players treated dice with nearly reverent trepidation, as if the dice were alive: the players talked to them, whispered charms and tried to persuade them to bring victory.
Because of their appearance, dice almost immediately became one of the most risky gambling. Players who own all bets: money, things, food, shelter, and even free (ancient German slave who became lost in the dice with an open mind). Also there is such a seemingly harmless game of various legal prohibitions. For example, in the 3rd century BC, in the history of the first game of the gambling law is known, was adopted. This is the so-called Lex 100190 (Alea's referring to death).
In ancient Greece there was a legend that the Olympic
Throughout the years the significance of the game increased. There appeared new game contrivances, for example cards. Some researchers argue that the first playing-cards appeared in China. In the Chinese dictionary, Ching-tsze-tung (1678), mentions that cards were created in 1120 (according to the Christian chronology), and in 1132 they were already widely used. Cards at those times were long and narrow plates with numbers from 1 to 14 on them. Four suits symbolized four seasons, and the number of cards (52) corresponded to the number of weeks in the year.
The prototype of the modern deck of cards is the Tarot cards. The first documentary witness that we know of refers to 1254, when Saint Louis issued an edict that forbade card game within France under the fear of punishment with a whip.
Other researchers call for Egypt, the homeland of the cards. The Tarot deck used to say to property. It had 78 leaves – arcana (22 seniors and 56 juniors). The pictures on the senior match arkans golden tables that remain in the dungeons of the God of the dead preserved in Egypt. Their names are as follows: 1 Fool, 2nd Magician, 3 Priestess; 4 Hostess; 5th Host; 6th High Priest; 7th Lovers; 8th Chariot; 9th Power; 10th Hermit; 11th The wheel of fortune; 12th Justice, 13th The hanged man; 14th Death, 15th Abstinence; 16th Devil, 17 Tower, 18th Star, 19th Moon, 20th Sun, 21 Court, 22nd Peace.
It is assumed that cards reached Europe in the 10-11. Century during the Crusades in the Middle East. Others argue that the majority of card games in France, which will be called, was born the home of the European maps were. The first factory manufactured) deck of Tarot cards, including 56 cards of four suits (swords, staffs, money, and cups. In addition, there were 22 trump cards with the numbers 1 to 21 Each card has a name for themselves: the emperor, the empress, the nun, the conjurer, the fool, etc. Thus, the deck 97 cards installed. Gradually, it was of new cards, which replaces more like the modern.
This is surprising is the symbol of the suit itself since the 15 century, have not changed suit. Medieval card game between very different layers of the population, the court of the king, who was popular until the general public. By the way, not only had access to these cards, as well as to beguile the time, the meaning of the symbol of social structure: a priest embodies the heart, diamonds, spades represented the nobility of the middle class and those officers club mention farmers.
Modern card games (poker, blackjack) arose in the U.S. in the second half of the 19th century. It is difficult to name them all. There are card games for adults and children, games for training logic and wit – and there are games just to beguile the time. The more mature is the individual, the more complex are the games he plays. Having become financially independent, he lets loose his gamble: makes bets, plays in the lotteries, makes bets on the totalizator and finally funds himself in the very temple of game, the casino. Here the individual totally submits to the game, which sharpens his feelings and emotions and makes him forget everything, but the green cloth and roulette wheel. The thirst for such feelings lures again and again those people, who have at least once been in the casino. Meanwhile, the skeptics say: “If you want to win in the casino, buy one of those”.
